Surviving the Delivery Route from Hell: Facing My Zombified Mailman in Dead Island 2

As a veteran gamer with over a decade exploring expansive open world titles, I‘ve taken down hordes of zombies across many post-apocalyptic nightmares. But none compared to the thrills and chills of "My Mailman Was a Zombie" – one of Dead Island 2‘s most creative side quests yet.

When I discovered a fateful journal left behind by infected mailman Wayne, I gears up for a challenging new mission. Equipped with ample preparations and strategy, I set out to piece together his tragic story by tracking Wayne through the zombie-infested city of Bel-Air.

This expansive quest took me from lavish mansions to blood-soaked suburbs, pitting my combat expertise against the most harrowing threats I‘ve ever faced. And rewarded me with powerful new weapons for the battles ahead.

Here‘s my comprehensive walkthrough for surviving the delivery route from hell and taking down the terrifying zombified mailman Wayne in Dead Island 2…

Gearing Up for the Journey Ahead

Before activating any major side quest in Dead Island 2, I make sure to optimize my loadout. Even high level players can get overwhelmed without the right preparations.

For "My Mailman Was a Zombie," I knew traversing large stretches of Bel-Air would be required. That demanded weapons effective at short and long ranges.

Here‘s the ultimate arrangement I put together:

Melee: Bladed Weapons like Machetes or Slicers – high damage and dismemberment for close quarters

Pistols: Lightweight and fast firing for weak point hits

Shotguns: Stopping power to blast apart humanoid zombies

Rifles: Precision and range to pick off runners and other agile infected

Of course, you can tailor gear to your own combat style. But I‘ve found this setup handles anything the zombie apocalypse throws my way.

With weapons locked and loaded, it was time to begin piecing together the paper trail…

The First Clue Among Bel-Air‘s Lavish Mansions

My first journal entry pointed towards Alpine Drive‘s sprawling Goat Pen mansion. Like many ludicrously opulent homes around Bel-Air designed to flaunt wealth, residents here were totally unprepared when the outbreak began.

I discovered an abandoned package on their front porch begging for rescue supplies. Seems they had barricaded themselves inside, struggling to survive as resources dwindled.

After punching through a few plague zombies roaming the exterior, I left the helpless elites to their fate. My expertise lies in saving ordinary citizens, not pampered aristocrats awaiting helicopter rescue on the balconies.

With the first cryptic clue inspected, it was onto the next…

An Ominous Trail Leading to Glitterati Corner

My journal notes directed me next towards the lifeless Glitterati Corner home. Clearly its wealthy owners had escaped early, leaving pricey cars parked haphazardly out front.

Another package waited by the front gate – this time showing strange teeth marks along its ravaged cardboard edges. I had seen enough zombie outbreaks to realize what this likely meant…

As if on cue, a nearby bloodcurdling scream broke the silence. Lumbering up the driveway was a gruesomely familiar figure – Wayne the mailman. Now a fully zombified shell of his former self in tattered, bile-soaked uniform shrieking for flesh.

Flanked by other zombies and towering acid-spewing Slobbers, Wayne had set a ambush for me. Time to take down this mailman gone postal!

Brutal Showdown with a Highly Aggressive Zombie Mailman

My first priority was keeping distance from the towering Slobbers flanking Wayne. Getting melted by their acidic projectile vomit spelled instant death.

The zombified mailman himself also posed a serious threat. Despite lacking speed, Wayne exhibited shockingly quick lunges when I came into range. And spat corrosive toxic bile capable of injuring or blinding.

I utilized hit-and-run tactics – circling the pack dealing ranged damage then falling back when they drew near. With Wayne soaking up headshots, I first focused fire on his supporting zombies and Slobbers.

Once isolated, I switched to the shotgun loaded with flesh-shredding slugs. As Wayne hacked up another volley of bile, I blasted apart his torso in a single deafening boom!

Though he struggled fruitlessly to attack as a rampaging half-corpse, shotgun dismemberment quickly finished the terrifying mailman‘s rampage for good.

Solving the Zombie Mailman Mystery

Searching Wayne‘s remains yielded a set of postal keys…the final clue I needed to solve this mystery.

I returned to the abandoned delivery truck which started this nightmarish trail. Wayne‘s keys granted access to a hidden cache with my quest reward inside – the formidable Raven rifle.

As I claimed this powerful weapon, the truth became clear. Even corrupted into a vessel of mindless violence, Wayne clung to shreds of his humanity until the end.

In desperately attempting delivery amidst outbreak chaos, he followed former routines trying to maintain normalcy as societal order collapsed. A sobering reminder of what…or who we all could become if this plague spreads unchecked.

For now, Dead Island 2‘s heroes like myself must continue Wayne‘s charge – delivering hope and safety to Bel-Air‘s beleaguered residents. We are the last line keeping humanity from extinction.

And with new tools like my hard-earned Raven rifle, our odds just keep improving…

Further Completing the Outbreak Mail Route

Ambitious survivors can expand on Wayne‘s doomed delivery route even after finishing the core side quest. Secret rewards await those willing to explore further!

Here are two additional stops I uncovered along the path:

The Boathouse

This small dock warehouse along Bel-Air Bay holds a Powerhouse sledgehammer perfect for crushing zombie skulls.

The Powerhouse sledgehammer location

Follow the shoreline west of the Glitterati Corner until you locate the boathouse. Mow down the infected dockworkers inside to claim the sledgehammer!

Cat Lady House

A quaint cottage along Bel-Air Road contains this hidden side mission. Make sure to gear up before approaching!

Inside lives a deranged elderly woman who feeds neighborhood cats…and occasionally trespassing humans to her infected feline companions!

Fight past waves of undead cats and their cannibalistic owner to earn rare animal attack boosting gear.

That completes my grand tour of Wayne‘s tragically twisted delivery route through Dead Island 2‘s Bel-Air location. Drop any questions in the comments section below! I may even document additional secrets to unlock powerful weapons and abilities on future outbreak mail routes…
