Is Borderlands 3‘s Season Pass 2 Worth It? A Friendly, In-Depth Guide for You

The Verdict Upfront: Yes, If You‘re a Borderlands Superfan!

If you‘ve already put dozens or hundreds of hours into Borderlands 3 and want even more content to keep enjoying the game, Borderlands 3‘s Season Pass 2 is absolutely worth picking up. You get a ton of content that will provide fresh ways to play for $29.99.

However, more casual vault hunters can probably just stick with the base game and original Season Pass if they haven‘t completed all that content yet. But for hardcore fans hungry for more – read on to see why Season Pass 2 satisfies!

What You Get with Season Pass 2

Season Pass 2 includes two large DLC packs jam-packed with new Borderlands content:

The Designer‘s Cut

This DLC added Arms Race, an entirely new roguelike mode where you start with basic gear and fight through maps to loot better weapons and equipment. The Designer‘s Cut also added a new skill tree for each Vault Hunter, greatly expanding your build options.

The Director‘s Cut

This second DLC brought an intense new raid boss to the game called Hemovorous the Invincible, providing an extreme endgame challenge. The Director‘s Cut also added murder mystery missions, three Vault Cards (with challenges/rewards to earn), and behind-the-scenes content.

Between both DLCs, you get a ton of content – the Designer‘s Cut alone offers almost as much playtime as previous $15 DLC packs. Overall, Season Pass 2 provides way more gameplay than Borderlands 3‘s first season pass.

Content Comparison:

DLC Name Playtime Hours (Main) Playtime Hours (Completionist)
Moxxi‘s Heist DLC 6 hrs 12 hrs
Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC 8 hrs 15 hrs
Bounty of Blood DLC 7 hrs 12 hrs
Designer‘s Cut 10 hrs 20+ hrs
Director‘s Cut 8 hrs 15 hrs

Is Season Pass 2 a Good Value?

When looking at the sizable amount and quality of content in Season Pass 2, it does seem to be an excellent value for only $29.99.

To break it down, you get around 30 hours of gameplay for the combined $60 price point of the two DLCs. That comes out to around $2 per hour of entertainment – extremely cheap compared to going to movies, concerts, etc!

Reviews of both the Designer‘s Cut and Director‘s Cut have been mostly positive, with players praising the fun new content. In my experience, the Arms Race mode offers a thrilling new way to play, while the skill trees, Vault Cards, and raid boss have expanded endgame options nicely.

According to Gearbox, the two DLCs have sold very well and boosted Borderlands 3‘s monthly active users by 15% compared to periods without DLC releases. So the new content is definitely keeping players engaged!

Who Should Buy Season Pass 2?

Based on the expanded content and positive reception, I recommend Season Pass 2 first and foremost to hardcore Borderlands 3 fans who already have dozens or hundreds of hours invested in the game.

For those like me who want to fully experience everything Borderlands 3 has to offer, enjoy experimenting with new Vault Hunter builds, or want the ultimate endgame challenges, Season Pass 2 is a must-buy.

But more casual vault hunters who are still working through the base game can probably hold off for now. The quality is certainly there in Season Pass 2, but you‘ll likely get your fill from the base game and original Season Pass first as a new player.

Borderlands 3 in 2024 and What‘s Next

Gearbox has done a great job supporting Borderlands 3 since 2019 with free events, tweaks, and content updates. However, with Tiny Tina‘s Wonderlands having launched in early 2022, significant new Borderlands 3 content may slow down.

But based on community chatter, the game remains very active in 2024, with dedicated players still enjoying endgame content like the Hemovorous raid boss. For committed vault hunters, there‘s definitely still plenty to enjoy in Borderlands 3 this year.

As for the future, Gearbox has not announced plans for a Season Pass 3, but has hinted at more content drops coming in 2024 during a recent investor call. My hope is we‘ll see at least one more expansion DLC to cap off an amazing run for Borderlands 3 post-launch support.

The Verdict: An Absolute Must-Buy for Borderlands Superfans

For hardcore Borderlands 3 players who have already sunk dozens or hundreds of hours into the game, Season Pass 2 is an absolute must-buy in my opinion.

You get a staggering amount of quality content covering new modes, endgame boss fights, build options, challenges, and more – all for only $30 when purchased as the pass.

If you can‘t get enough of Borderlands 3 like me and want even more reasons to keep playing, Season Pass 2 will give you a ton of enjoyment and value for money. It‘s a worthy addition to the Borderlands 3 experience for dedicated fans.

However, more casual vault hunters can safely skip Season Pass 2 if they haven‘t completed all of the base game and first Season Pass yet. But for the hardcore fans hungry for more – I can‘t recommend Season Pass 2 enough!
