As an experienced Diablo gamer with over 200 hours invested across the franchise, I know firsthand how frustrating side quests can be without a quality walkthrough. Well luckily for you, I‘ve created the web‘s most comprehensive guide to completing the Closing the Book quest in Diablo 4!
Eriman‘s Pyre – Gateway to the Quest
Before Elder Akros even gives you the quest, you need to display your heroics by conquering the Eriman‘s Pyre stronghold looming just northwest of Weijinhani.
I‘d recommend being at least level 17 before attempting the dungeon, and bringing fire-resistant armor and health potions to stand a chance against the hellish inhabitants within. Once you fight through the skeleton mobs and take down the Fallen Overseer mini-boss, you‘ll square off against DuzAgur – an intimidating foe who dual wields flaming blades.
DuzAgur Boss Fight Strategies
DuzAgur‘s three key attacks to look out for are:
- Spinning Charge – Rushes you suddenly, dealing weapon damage
- Rain of Fire – Summons waves of flaming skull projectiles
- Immolation – Covers 60 yard radius in scorching flames for 10 seconds
I‘ve found success evading these moves while using hit-and-run tactics as a melee Shadow character. Get in close to do burst damage after he uses Spinning Charge, then retreat when he ignites his Immolation aura.
Ranged builds can keep a safer distance, using the occasional knockback ability when he draws too near. With persistence and these tips, the pyromaniac leader will eventually fall!
Unlocking the Quest
Upon clearing Eriman‘s Pyre, talk to the gravely wounded Elder Akros located southeast in Weijinhani. Inquiring about the tragic massacre that devastated his people will prompt Akros to request your aid recovering four missing ledger pages…thus kicking off the Closing the Book quest!
Collecting the Pages
Now comes the real challenge – tracking down each page hidden across tainted ruins. I‘ve marked out optimal routes and the biggest threats for securing every last scrap:
Page #1
The first ruined house in the northeast zone holds nasty surprises – several resurrected Burning Skeleton guards protecting the page. I managed to lure them out in pairs to avoid being overwhelmed. Once cleared, head inside to find the page amidst Smoldering Tomes.
Page #2
Similar skeletal foes await at the Page #2 farmstead slightly south. This time I opened with a stunning AoE attack before they noticed me, quickly dispatching the survivors. The page sits on a scorched table inside the barn.
Page #3
Approaching this habitat to the southwest, stay alert for Enslaved Cultists disguised as peasants. Use a skill like Sense Evil and don‘t let them swarm or flank you! Once defeated, the page can be snatched from a desk within the intact house.
Page #4
The ominous Oblivion Portal outside this ruin emits a constant stream of Vile Swarmlings to hinder your progress. I‘d advise a weapon with Poison damage to puncture their hardy carapaces with ease. The last page is yours for the taking by the swirling portal mouth!

With all four ancient pages secured safely in your inventory, backtrack to Elder Akros in Weijinhani to complete your quest. Hand over the ledgers and he will reward you with:
- 20 Renown for the Hawezar region (helpful for future quests)
- Gold based on your level
- Bonus XP based on your level
Weighing risk to reward, I‘d rate this quest at 7/10. The page collection itself is pretty straightforward, but contending with surprise enemies in each area keeps you on high alert. The payout of gold and XP to boost your hero isn‘t half bad either.
