As a fellow Terps fan, I want to provide you with the most detailed guide possible for listening to University of Maryland sports. Whether it‘s football, basketball, baseball or lacrosse, this guide will cover all the best radio, streaming and app options so you never have to miss a game! Let‘s dive in:
Tuning into Terps Football Radio
When it comes to following our beloved Terps football team, the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (TSRN) is your best source.
TSRN has been broadcasting Terps games since 1955, so they know how to cover Maryland football better than anyone! Their broadcast crews are packed with experienced sportscasters who provide lively play-by-play and analysis.
According to SBD Global, TSRN reaches over 2 million listeners across their radio affiliates in Maryland, D.C. and 7 other states. So lots of Terps fans tune in!
Here are the main stations that carry TSRN football coverage:
- 980 AM (WTEM) – The flagship station in Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia. If you‘re in this area, tune your radio dial to 980 AM for the game!
- 105.7 The Fan (WJZ-FM) – Broadcasts in Baltimore and central Maryland – perfect for Terps fans in this region.
- 106.7 The Fan – Carries select games for D.C. area listeners.
Below is a table with some key TSRN affiliates in other areas:
City | Station |

Stream Terps Football Online
With TSRN streaming, geography won‘t stop you from tuning in!
I highly recommend using the TuneIn app (free download) and searching for "Terrapin Sports Radio" to pull up the live game stream. This allows you to listen on your phone, tablet, laptop – anywhere!
You can also visit TuneIn.com to access the TSRN live stream.
For more streaming options, the official Maryland Athletics website provides free audio webcasts of football games. Plus the Maryland Athletics App lets you stream right from your mobile device.
According to TSRN, their streaming broadcasts average over 150,000 listeners per football game. So streaming is extremely popular for out-of-market Terps fans!
Satellite Radio Coverage
If you have a SiriusXM subscription, select Terps football games air on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, channel 84.
This exposes Maryland games to SiriusXM‘s over 34 million subscribers nationwide! So satellite radio expands our fanbase.
ESPN Radio also carries some Terps football broadcasts on channels 80-83. Check the schedule on the ESPN Radio site.
So with streaming and satellite radio options, Terps games reach fans across the country! Our fanbase continues to grow.
Out of Market Radio
When Maryland hits the road, you can often find radio coverage on local ESPN Radio affiliates in that area. For example, when we play Penn State at Beaver Stadium, one of the ESPN stations in State College, PA will likely broadcast the game.
Westwood One Sports and Compass Media Networks also pick up select Terps football broadcasts. Check their schedules online to see if our game is listed.
So fear not – even away games are accessible through local radio and nationwide networks. We may bleed red, but our coverage spans the entire country!
Listening to Baseball on the Radio
In addition to college sports, I want to make sure you can listen to Major League Baseball teams like our hometown Orioles. Baseball on the radio gives you the nostalgic crack-of-the-bat sound that TV can‘t provide!
Tuning into O‘s Baseball
To listen to O‘s games on the radio in the Baltimore area, 98 Rock (WIYY 97.9 FM) is the flagship station. They broadcast all 162 regular season games, so 98 Rock has you covered all season long!
According to MLB, the Orioles Radio Network reaches over 2 million listeners in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Here are some of the top stations that carry O‘s baseball:
Market | Station |
---|---|
Washington, D.C. | 980 AM |
Hagerstown, MD | 103.1 FM |
Fredericksburg, VA | 96.9 FM |
Eastern Shore, MD | 94.3 FM |
You can find a full station listing on Orioles.com.
Streaming O‘s Games Online
Don‘t live near an Orioles affiliate? You can listen online through MLB.com or the MLB At Bat app with an MLB.tv subscription.
The Orioles also provide live radio streaming for free on their website and mobile app!
Other streaming options include apps like TuneIn, iHeartRadio and Radio.com – just search for WIYY 98 Rock.
So an MLB.tv subscription or free streaming ensures you won‘t miss an inning, no matter where you are!
Out of Market Coverage
When the O‘s are on the road, check if the game is scheduled on SiriusXM‘s MLB Network Radio, channel 89. This satellite station picks up radio broadcasts from around MLB.
ESPN Radio and other national radio networks also air some Orioles game coverage.
With the wide reach of Orioles Radio, Birdland spans the nation!
Tuning into Other Maryland Sports
In addition to football and baseball, the Terrapin Sports Radio Network broadcasts University of Maryland basketball and lacrosse. These fast-paced games are perfect for radio.
Maryland Basketball on the Radio
Johnny Holliday and Chris Knoche bring you men‘s hoops action on 980 AM WTEM and Maryland radio affiliates.
Select women‘s basketball matchups also air on TSRN flagship 980 AM. ESPN Radio and Westwood One provide national coverage for some men‘s and women‘s games.
I recommend the TuneIn app to stream Maryland basketball – it really brings courtside energy right to you!
Maryland Lacrosse on the Radio
Both men‘s and women‘s lacrosse get radio play-by-play from Johnny Holliday on 980 AM WTEM. The TSRN streaming and mobile app allows you to listen online as well.
Plus nationally syndicated coverage comes from Westwood One, ESPN Radio, SiriusXM and others.
So no matter the sport, TSRN has you covered to enjoy Maryland Athletics! Let me know if you need any other listening tips for basketball, lacrosse or other sports. I‘m happy to help fellow Terps fans.
Go Terps!
