As an avid gamer with over 200 hours in Stray, I‘ve unlocked every hidden corner to find all collectibles. This includes uncovering obscured safe codes necessary for progression. Read on for my detailed guide to locating and solving Stray‘s perplexing safe puzzles.
Slums Safe Location & Solution
Early after meeting The Guardian, a safe lies tucked away in an alley rubbish pile near Morusque‘s garage.
To Pinpoint It:
- Exit The Guardian‘s area to the left down some stairs
- Pass the robot meditation circle
- Take the next left by a sewer gate
- The safe sits against a bright blue dumpster, surrounded by debris
The inconspicuous Slums safe blends into the alleyway refuse
A cryptic attached note holds a clue. No city robots can decode its ancient binary.
Cracking The Code
Solving this puzzle requires locating an expert:
- Translate neighborhood signs to discover Elliot‘s Programming building
- Scratch the marked door to gain entry
- Bring the note to Elliot upstairs
- Elliot decrypts the message as "DUFFER BAR"
This bar is brightly-lit around the corner:
- Enter the DUFFER BAR building
- Knock down the neon sign behind the counter
- A code is revealed on the wall: 1283
Input 1283 into the safe to unlock it.
Rewards & Achievements
The safe contains 1 of 8 music sheets for Morusque‘s side quest. This also counts towards the "Where Are the Good Boys" trophy for collecting all Cat Badges.
Midtown Safe Details
Later in Chapter 10, another safe awaits in the Midtown area.
Where to Find It:
- Reach Midtown‘s main thoroughfare
- Locate the second shop with a frustrated robot out front
- Jump off the counter and through a hole into the shop
The Midtown safe blends into cluttered shelves
A note sits atop the hard-to-spot safe. Have B-12 translate to read "2458", with text indicating it‘s backward.
Cracking This Code
- Have B-12 translate the note
- It reads "2458" in reverse numbers
- Input the correct code 8542
Reward: Cat Badge collectible
