4 Polish Inventions That Changed Our Lives for The Better

In particular, this paragraph is about vitamin B1 and more about the greatest scientist that put in a lot of effort to create the supplement good for our metabolism.

Polish scientist Casimir Funk made a shocking discovery, that took the medicine to a new level. He started his research in 1910 when moving to London for his work at Lister Institute for preventive medicine. Back then the unknown and little explored disease named beriberi was raging among people that included white rice in their regular diet.

What is more interesting is that Funk discovered that people eating unpolished rice did not have such problems with health. From this time on, this problematic topic has become his main focus, concern, and scientific issue. Funk has conducted a series of experiments that resulted in a distinction between two types of rice husk.

He concluded that rice from the B group contains the component that can cure polyneuritis. The scientist called this microelement “vitamin”, that now is known as B1 or thiamine.


2. Esperanto

This invention is famous not only in Poland but far beyond it. L. Zamenhof created the most popular constructed international auxiliary language. Scientist believed that the main reason for human misunderstandings is the language barrier.

So his goal was clear: simple for learning and structured language will help mankind find some common ground. Although Esperanto did not become so widely used as it was expected to, more than 2 million people from the whole world use it.

4. Bulletproof vest.

It was created at the beginning of the 20th century by two polish inventors Casimir Zeglen and Jan Szczepanik. Their invention was based on the idea of ​​absorbing the energy of a projectile with several layers of clothing so that the first vest was very similar to the modern one.

Szczepanik and Zeglen demonstrated to the public that the vest was resistible to bullets that pierced right through wooden boards and sheets of iron. Szczepanik got to taste fame, when his bulletproof vest saved the life of the Spanish king Alfonso XIII when his enemies attempted assassination.
