God of War Ragnarok: Complete Guide to Obtaining Celestial Fossils and Weapon Mastery

As an avid God of War enthusiast with over 200 hours played across multiple playthroughs, I live and breathe everything related to Kratos‘ epic Norse saga. So when New Game+ launched along with the new resource known as Celestial Fossils, best believe I was hook, line and sinker!

These rare crafting materials utterly transform the New Game+ experience by allowing you to upgrade all of Kratos‘ weapons to the max level cap of 10. Trust me when I say fully upgrading your arsenal is an absolute game-changer!

But collecting Celestial Fossils is no cakewalk. Today I‘ll share everything I‘ve learned about locating each fossil spot plus how to put them to good use back at the blacksmith.

Here‘s what I‘ll cover in this guide:

  • What are Celestial Fossils and why should you care?
  • Individual maps for all 7 fossil locations
  • Detailed boss strategies for rare drops
  • How to upgrade to max Level 10 weapons
  • Weapon comparison showing upgrade benefits
  • The joy of crushing New Game+ with max gear!

Let‘s get started, shall we?

What Are Celestial Fossils?

New to God of War Ragnarok? Let me catch you up to speed!

Celestial Fossils are ultra-rare crafting resources that only become available in New Game+ after beating the main story campaign. They drop from select legendary chests and optional bosses.

These fossils serve a very special purpose – giving you the ability to upgrade Kratos‘ Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Draupnir Spear all the way to Level 10, the hard cap for gear in Ragnarok.

Without Celestial Fossils, your gear would plateau at Level 9. But the difference in stats and abilities between Level 9 and the max Level 10 is staggering, as I‘ll illustrate below.

In short, Celestial Fossils hold the key to unlocking Kratos‘ true destructive potential!

Now let‘s get into the nitty-gritty details of where to find all 7 fossils scattered across the realms…

All Celestial Fossil Locations

Many warriors have fallen attempting to collect the full set of these elusive crafting materials. But fret not! I‘ll provide detailed maps and tips that saw me through the journey successfully.

Here are all the spots where you can pick up Celestial Fossils:

Map of Svartalfheim realm

1. Aurvangar Wetlands (Svartalfheim)

Our first stop is the lush hunting grounds of Aurvangar Wetlands in Svartalfheim. Along the northwestern shore, nestled under a large stone structure, waits a Legendary Chest. Inside lies your first Celestial Fossil.

Be careful of enemies lurking in the dense brush!

2. Althjof‘s Rig (Svartalfheim)

Next make way to the isolated watchtower known as Althjof‘s Rig, just south of the Sverd Sands. Look along the western exterior for another Legendary Chest. Crack it open to claim a second Celestial Fossil.

Hope you‘re not afraid of heights!

3. The Applecore – Defeat The Hateful (Sverd Sands)

Now it‘s time to test your combat prowess against the formidable foe The Hateful. This dangerous troll has made its lair inside The Applecore silo within Sverd Sands.

Use the nearby explosive barrels to inflict damage whenever possible. Target its legs to drop The Hateful to a vulnerable state for massive punishing Runic Attacks! Once felled, it drops a Celestial Fossil crafting material.

Trust me…this ugly freak is extremely challenging even on Normal difficulty! But the payout is worth it.

4. Jarnsmida Pitmines (Svartalfheim)

For the next fossil, journey over to the sprawling mines of Jarnsmida Pitmines. Look northwest for the giant crane with a hanging hook and cargo platform. Ride this mobile crane to reach an isolated ledge where a special Legendary Chest sits.

Loot it to snatch up your 4th Celestial Fossil so far!

5. Dragon‘s Beach – Defeat Everlasting (Vanaheim)

Pack your bags because we‘re going realm-hopping to the sun-scorched shores of Dragon‘s Beach in Vanaheim for our 5th fossil.

More specifically, look to the southern end of the beach near the shipwreck. Here awaits the corrupted Valkyrie Everlasting – one of the most unrelenting foes in all the realms. She can quickly overwhelm unprepared warriors.

I highly recommend upgrading the Draupnir Spear and using its heavy runic attack to maintain distance while pelting her with spears. Communicate with Atreus frequently to utilize his Sky Maelstrom ability for crowd control when the cursed Draugr adds spawn.

If done right, you‘ll take her down in just under 5 minutes. Claim your rewards…in this case a Celestial Fossil crafting material!

6. Odin‘s Raven Chest (Svartalfheim)

The icy coast along southwest Jarnsmida Pitmines marks our next fossil‘s location. Peer across the water to spot one of Odin‘s Ravens perched atop a lonely tower.

Take aim and snipe it out of the sky! This reveals an Odin‘s Raven Chest. Inside sits a plethora of crafting goods including our 6th Celestial Fossil.

7. Temple of Light (Alfheim)

Last but not least, the final Celestial Fossil rests within the ethereal Temple of Light in Alfheim. More specifically, it‘s hidden in the 2nd of two Legendary Chest scattered across this temple.

Traversing these radiant grounds can get confusing with so many paths, barriers and gates. If you have any trouble navigating, I‘ve created a full Temple of Light Walkthrough guiding you step-by-step through the entire area.

But don‘t get blinded by the magnificent sights…stay focused on acquiring that last Celestial Fossil above all else!

And just like that, all 7 Celestial Fossils now rest safely in your crafting inventory. Let‘s put them to use!

Upgrading to Max Level 10 Weapons

So you‘ve valiantly fought your way across multiple realms to gather this rare set of crafting materials. What next?

It‘s time to reap the benefits and upgrade your full arsenal to nearly god-like Level 10 status!

Fly over to the northwest shores of Bay of Bounty where Sindri‘s House stands. Inside you‘ll find the blacksmith station. Here lies the opportunity to take the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and Draupnir Spear to unprecedented heights of power!

For each weapon, you need to fork over 3 Celestial Fossils along with other rare materials found in legendary chests and quest rewards.

It‘s an expensive investment, no doubt. But I‘m telling you…the sheer damage output and wicked combat moves you unlock are 100% worth spending every last fossil!

Just take a look at what Level 10 gets you:

Weapon Level 9 Stats Level 10 Upgrade
Leviathan Axe Frost damage: 173 per hit Frost damage up by 143! New Cleansing Flame skill
Blades of Chaos Burn damage: 322 per hit Burn damage up by 242! New Cyclone of Chaos and Rampage skills
Draupnir Spear Strength: 141 Strength up by 68! New Meteor Storm and Hyperion Grapple skills

I don‘t know about you, but after 500+ hours playing across multiple God of War titles, this still gets me frothing at the mouth!

So run…don‘t walk…to upgrade all that glorious gear. Then it‘s time to put those boosted weapons to work!

Believe me when I say obliterating armies of deadly foes with maxed out gear, devastating off-the-wall combos, and a thirst for violence never gets old. I still get goosebumps thinking about it!

With maxed out weapons secured, Long Lake outpost, The Crucible and beyond all become a playground for destruction once impossible at earlier gear levels. I cannot overstate how much more gratifying New Game+ becomes when you‘re an unstoppable beast!

Even after all these years, God of War still finds ways make me fall deeper in love with virtual carnage. Many thanks to Celestial Fossils for pushing my passion higher than Yggdrasil itself!

So get out there, track down those fossils, and revel in the glory of max-level combat my friends! Skål!

Parting Words

And there concludes my full guide to obtaining every Celestial Fossil plus using them to upgrade Kratos‘ weapons of war to Level 10 mastery.

I hope all the detailed maps, boss tips and upgrade benefits better illustrate the incredible powers that await in New Game+ once you collect these rare crafting materials.
