Disney Dreamlight Valley Bigger Chests: My Complete Guide to Massively Increasing Your Storage

As a long-time gamer and Disney enthusiast, I‘ve been utterly hooked on Dreamlight Valley lately. But one major frustration I kept running into was filling up my tiny starter chest almost instantly. Between gems, crafting materials, massive pumpkin collections – you need space to store it all!

So as a seasoned player now with massively expanded storage, I‘ve put together an in-depth guide on how to get those glorious bigger chests. I‘ll cover everything from upgrading your house to crafting extra chests, with plenty of tips from my gameplay experience sprinkled in. Let‘s dive in!

Why Upgrading For More Storage is Crucial

Before we get into the how, let me emphasize why pursuing bigger chests needs to be a top priority…

You‘re going to acquire loads of different items to progress quests, decorate the valley, cook recipes etc. And with very limited starting storage, your gameplay gets restricted really fast.

Here are just some of the valuable items you‘ll want space for:

  • Crafting materials (wood, stone, fibers etc) to build furniture
  • Gems to complete gem goals and craft jewelry
  • Seeds to beautify biomes once they unlock
  • Fish and other ingredients to cook meals
  • Furniture and decorations to customize your house

And you need multiples of many items for quests. For example, Remy‘s Ratatouille recipe required me to stockpile 81 tomatoes and 27 carrots! Running out of space makes completing quests way tougher.

By upgrading your storage capacity early on, you avoid headaches like:

  • Constantly selling items just to clear space
  • Not having materials needed to finish quests
  • Missing opportunities to cook meals or craft items
  • Having a home interior that looks sad and empty

So how do you actually expand your storage and reap those benefits? Time to break it down…

Increasing Storage: Upgrading Your House

Easily the most significant storage boosts come from upgrading the house itself. This expands the main chest size while also adding new rooms for more chests.

Completing key quests for Scrooge McDuck allows you to upgrade your home. Here are the levels with their slot increases and costs:

House Upgrade Chest Slot Increase Star Coin Cost
Medium +16 slots 1,000
Large +16 slots 2,000
Upgrade Storage 1 +1 row 2,000
Upgrade Storage 2 +1 row 20,000
Upgrade Storage 3 +1 row 75,000

As you can see, those last upgrades especially give massive boosts but the currency costs ramp up too.

So what quests do you need to finish?

The key is completing Scrooge McDuck’s quests to re-open his store. These include:

  • Making Cents of Things – Gather and sell items to earn 1,000 star coins
  • Scrooge McDuck’s Grand Re-opening – Fulfill requests to attract customers
  • Dreamlight Valley Economy 101 – Find gems and sell to Goofy

Once you complete those three, Scrooge gives you the Medium and Large upgrade options through the elevator menu.

Then outside the house, interacting with his sign lets you pay to add full rows of chest slots.

I cannot stress enough how vital these house upgrades are for early game storage expansion! It makes such a difference in what items you can accumulate.

Crafting Additional Chests

While house upgrades are huge, you shouldn‘t stop there for storage solutions. I learned first-hand that crafting extra chests to scatter around my home proved extremely useful.

Gathering the materials is no problem at all:

  • 25 Softwood – Chop down trees
  • 25 Stone – Smash boulders

With those, head to a crafting table. Under Functional Items you‘ll see the chest recipe open up.

Every chest you craft gives 16 more item slots, so I made enough to fill each room, designating certain chests for certain items.

For example, I have dedicated chests just for gems, seafood, vegetables, and one for cute furniture items. This lets me stay organized instead of just throwing everything randomly into upgraded house chests.

Pro Crafting Tip: You can place chests outside too! I lined some up out front to store excess crafting materials and seeds.

Optimization Tips From a Seasoned Player

While the upgrades give you all the storage capacity you could need, organization is still important with so much space. Through all my adventures, I‘ve picked up useful tips on keeping items manageable:

  • Consolidate categories – Keep all gems/fish/wood together
  • Maximize stackables – Items like sticks and softwood stack in singles slots
  • Offload outside – Outdoor chests hold random overflow
  • Remember sell points – Donald‘s boat buys lots of extra crafting goods

And don’t feel overwhelmed as you amass a huge stockpile over time. View it as security so you always have assets needed for any quest or recipe. No more scrambling to find carrots for a stew!

Enjoy All Your Newfound Space For Magical Fun

Whew, after reading this behemoth of a guide, you should have all the knowledge needed to massively upgrade your house, craft bonus storage, and optimize your inventory. No more space woes frustrating fun progression in the valley!

Now head over to Scrooge, befriend the delightful duck, and revel in those giant upgraded chests. Feel the freedom of keeping every piece of glittering amethyst or fluffy sea bass your heart desires! Not to mention finally indulging your interior decorating dreams.
