How To Improve Your Physical Conditioning

Maintaining a proper physical condition is among the very best things you can do for yourself. Health is wealth, as they say, and staying in optimum condition should be the goal for everyone.

Of course, it’s much easier said than done and requires a remarkable level of discipline. Physical wellness goes hand in hand with mental health, which can be maintained by simply doing things you enjoy doing, even if it’s betting on your favorite sports, something Heritage Sports can facilitate pretty easily.

If you’re looking to improve your physical conditioning, it will take a whole lot of effort. Steady exercise and a good diet should get you there but it isn’t as simple as that. We’re going to take a look at the diet aspect first as what one puts into their body is perhaps of chief importance, especially more than what they try to do with it once it’s in there.

It’s pretty hard to remain disciplined when it comes to food. We wouldn’t dare stress a strict diet – moderation is a lot easier to achieve. We’re well aware of the damage sugar can do to one’s body, especially when it comes to weight gain. Sugar is one of the body’s biggest enemies but it’s quite addictive and hard to do away with completely. Taking in sugar in limited amounts is probably one’s best bet but getting completely rid of it is even better.

“Consuming too much added sugar can raise blood pressure and increase chronic inflammation, both of which are pathological pathways to heart disease,” an excerpt from a Harvard Health piece reads.

“Excess consumption of sugar, especially in sugary beverages, also contributes to weight gain by tricking your body into turning off its appetite-control system because liquid calories are not as satisfying as calories from solid foods. This is why it is easier for people to add more calories to their regular diet when consuming sugary beverages.

“Since your body digests these foods slowly, the sugar in them offers a steady supply of energy to your cells. A high intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains also has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.”

A good system for curbing your sugar intake would be to allow yourself some every other day. Say you have sugar on Monday, don’t have any on Tuesday, and then back on Wednesday before cutting again on Thursday. This method slashes the intake by 50 percent, which is not at all bad. It’s also a lot easier to maintain, as long as you don’t attempt to make up for the non-sugar days by consuming more on a sugar day.

Other things worth cutting on: Carbs, red meat, alcohol. Low-carb diets are thought to promote weight loss but there are arguments against it as well. Again, moderation is probably best for the regular Joe, you could adopt the same every other day system above.

It could be used for red meat (or all meat) too, going a day or two a week without any animal product is a pretty gainful practice. When it comes to alcohol, just don’t overdo it; if you’re going to drink, keep yourself hydrated. Matching every drink with a glass of water would be optimal.

Low-carb diets

On the physical side of things, you could do plenty of things to maintain peak physical conditioning. Joining a gym should surely set you on the right track, especially if you could get a fitness trainer to go along with that.

If you don’t have the time or money to be at the gym several days a week, there’s still a lot that could be done without a gym membership. There are several guides out there teaching folks how to make the best of their home workouts.

Cardio is pretty crucial to conditioning and it should take up a big part of one’s workout. The great thing about cardio is the fact that you don’t need any equipment. Cardio could be as simple as a daily brisk walk but jogging is even better.

Jumping rope is one of the best cardio exercises you could undertake. There’s also the option of cycling, indoor or outdoor, while there are several HIIT programs available online for free. You could also check one out right here.

Weight and resistance training are also excellent methods of getting into top condition. There are a number of benefits to be had from such training, not to mention, strength, bone density, and a great outward appearance.

It’s all well and good to maintain a good diet and get plenty of exercise in but they could prove useless if your head’s not in the right place. Meditation and mindfulness exercises also shouldn’t be ignored as they’re pretty great for mental health, as is sleep – so get a lot of that.
