Prometheus Stills Let You See Ridley Scott's Future

Ridley Scott's new film, Prometheus is set to open this summer.  The set pieces, costumes and art for the film  provide a glimpse of possible future technology and some designs are drawn right from the present.  For instance in the first shot in the image gallery below, Charlize Theoron sits on a Marc Newson Gluon chair.

Prometheus is set in the distant future, where two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.

The Story of the Chessboard

The classic parable of how the inventor of the game of chess used his knowledge of exponential growth to trick an emperor is commonly used to explain the staggering and accelerating growth of technology. The 33rd square on the chessboards represents the first step into the second half of the chessboard, where exponential growth takes off.

33rd Square explores technological progress in AI, robotics, genomics, neuroscience, nanotechnology, art, design and the future as humanity encroaches on The Singularity.
